Blue Star Mothers, Inc. is a non profit 501 (c) 3 organization and all contributions are thus tax deductible.
New York Chapter 1 receives no government assistance, other than the use of the Canteen building, and does not receive grants from other major organizations. All of our activities, some of which are summarized on our Home page, are supported solely from donations by individuals, small businesses, other Support groups such as the VFW, American Legion, Patriot Guard Riders, and others. Most of our recent donors are listed on our " Our Sponsors " page.
Our Chapter spends very little on Administrative costs. All of our members are volunteers. We have no paid employees, use no consultants or contractors, own no vehicles. Fund raising activities are generously advertised by our local media, free of charge. The primary expense is to pay for the utilities and grounds maintenance of the Canteen , which is minimal; the Veteran's Administration is responsible for building maintenance. Therefore, virtually all of our donations are dedicated to direct support of active duty troops, both those deployed to war zones and those not, Veterans, and military families that are often in dire need of help.
We recognize that many other Organizations, both Government and non-government with similar missions, exist. Most do an outstanding job. However, there is still a significant gap in the overall troop, veteran, and military family support structure and we do as much as we can.
Our activities can be summarized into three areas:
1. Canteen activities which
include the donation of new and used clothing and food to Veterans in need. We also provide some meals to the Veterans and troops during
Canteen
hours.
2. Packages of items not often readily available to overseas troops.
3.
Support to military families that are often without adequate food or other necessary items. The unfortunate reality is that many of our troops, especially those of lower rank, are not paid enough to support families.
You can provide help by either donating items for the packages we mail, non-perishable food items for the Canteen, or cash. We will post your name as a contributor on the "Our Sponsors" page unless you wish to remain anonymous.
Cash is necessary to pay for package postage and to supplement the food items, clothing, and other items we provide. You may donate via Credit Card by pushing the "Donate" button,
